Here, in Chilid we are not “task-doers” but rather augmented teams who care about Product Development. And that’s why while designing our meeting rooms, the first thing we thought about was teams dedicated to each web application we work on. These rooms are there to help our teams in organising this work, keeping all materials in one place, and visualising data.
While open-concept space remains crucial for collaboration and teamwork, a quiet space is also vital to comfortably allow people some privacy for meetings or conference calls. Our idea is to have one small, private meeting room for every two teams.
The aim is to provide easy access without the necessity to book weeks in advance. The teams can also safely leave their notes and scribbles on the walls without the threat that the next occupants will erase everything. Rooms are also adjusted to a team’s capacity which makes it even more personal.
“Everything we do, we do for the Team. Even our team rooms’ names refer to great examples of cooperation. In our Agile Office, you’ll find Apollo 11, MIR, Dirty Dozen, Navy Seals, GROM or Pit Stop.”
Despite the fact that on a daily basis we use software-based tools, we haven’t quit visualising information on whiteboards, walls or glass. We use every available space. Our walls are covered with special paint which allows us to write, draw, and erase - just like we do on whiteboards. Glass, in turn, is a perfect place for notes and visualising our thoughts during brainstorming sessions.
Also, they give our teams a sense of isolation and make it easier to stay focused during the whole meeting. At the same time, the stay open to the whole organisation - everyone sees which meeting is taking place - meeting with a client, typical 1:1 or any of our Scrum Events: daily, review, retrospective, planning.
By the way, recently we’ve discovered it’s a perfect place for our Holacracy Meetings - Tactical and Governance.
On TV screens, we present our circles, refine their structure, roles, and accountabilities by processing tensions one by one.
